Ep. #13 - Climbing

Climber, course setter, dancer, Zoe Brodsky, joins us to discuss: commitment, humility and trust.

Facing new heights; Zoe Brodsky did not move to Asheville, NC to become a rock climber, but that has been the way that presented itself. After following her psychology degree to work in a therapeutic boarding school, Zoe found the work she was doing did not meet the vision for how she wanted to be spending her time. Meanwhile, in the first month of being in NC, Zoe visited Cultivate Climbing a place she would call home.

After a year or so Zoe quit her job at the boarding school and applied to work at the the climbing gym where she was spending her free time. She started at the front desk, and began working on the youth and afterschool programs. In January Zoe took on the role of assistant general manager and began route setting. It was interesting hearing her perspective of setting routes to promote accessibility for a variety of climbers.

Zoe also shared how she’s able to use her flexibility from dancing to conquer new obstacles. Though she was sad to let dancing go with the pandemic, Zoe finds rock climbing to be more fulfilling and gratifying thanks in part to the objectivity of it. Zoe finds as she levels up she learns more about trusting herself and the community around her.
