About — A Modern Violet
Jordan Allen’s 2022 exhibition Stop & Smell the Flowers:
When was the last time you stopped to smell flowers? Or allowed yourself a moment to be present and let things just…be? We’ve become so engulfed with work and things that distract us that we deny ourselves the chance to just stop and see what life has to offer. Perhaps you might have had the feeling that you were blazing through life and couldn’t find time for yourself. Stillness plays an integral part in the human experience. This space was meant to provide sanctuary for those who sought to be still.
Life’s journey is like walking through a garden, but it’s up to you to decide if you’ll stop and smell the flowers. What could our ideas be if we planted them, tended to them, and allowed them to flourish? I can only provide the question, but it’s up to you to take the trip down the rabbit hole to see what you might find. I encourage everyone who visits to remain present. Please stop and smell the flowers.
Stop & Smell the Flowers — A Modern Violet
The work that I create is centered around the freedom that is inside all of us, especially those of use who are Black. Society attempts to mold us with its expectations. My artwork aims to directly confront the expectations placed on us through a dialogue on personal development.
